A home for useful history.
Apps come and go. Your projects, records, and working context should stay with you, ready for the next tool you choose.
Toolsperson · Working prototype · Ongoing research
Your data should outlast your software.
Projects, records, and the context you build with an assistant shouldn’t have to start over every time you change a tool. Toolsperson explores a home for that information that belongs to you.
The idea
Apps come and go. Your projects, records, and working context should stay with you, ready for the next tool you choose.
An app requests the records it needs. An assistant gets relevant context. Access should be specific, understandable, and revocable.
Try a different app or model without rebuilding your history from scratch. The software can change while the useful context carries forward.
Remote access · In use by Marginalia
A private line between people’s AI agents and the apps that hold their data. The data stays on their own devices; the relay only connects.
Running on it
Marginalia RelayAn agent on a computer connects through an encrypting bridge. The relay forwards what it can’t open. Chat apps that can’t encrypt are told so, plainly.
A short code finds the library; it grants nothing. Each agent asks, shows a matching code, and is allowed with Face ID or a passcode, with access the person chooses.
The app connects only while it’s open, or woken for a moment. When every device is offline, there is no copy anywhere to answer from.
Native actions · Starting with Stockpea
A shared foundation for the useful things you ask Siri to do with your apps. Each app supplies its own facts and checks what you can access.
Running on it
Stockpea Development buildStockpea’s development build can read your shopping list, recorded fridge stock and saved preparations through Siri and Shortcuts. Physical-device Siri testing is still pending.
On-device interpretation turns a question into a supported read. Stockpea’s saved records supply the answer, with unknown amounts and estimates kept visible.
The native layer uses typed, scoped actions with access checks on every read. Stockpea is the first implementation; support in other apps and an MCP adapter remain future work.
Where it stands
Toolsperson began as a personal backend for records and assistant context. That work now informs Relay for Marginalia and the native Intents layer being tested first in Stockpea, alongside broader research into user-owned data, scoped access, and replaceable tools.
The broader capabilities remain research goals. Talk to us about where continuity and control would help your workflow.
